Vrbnik Circle
Description
In front of the entrance to the parish church of the Assumption of Mary lies the famous Vrbnik Circle—a ring made of sea pebbles with eight segments, a geometric model from which all letters of the Glagolitic script can be derived.
It is no coincidence that the Vrbnik Circle is located in Vrbnik, as it is the place with the highest number of preserved Glagolitic monuments in Croatia and the world.
The positioning of the letters in the circle is precisely determined, and the same arrangement of letters is found in the Krk inscription. The Vrbnik Circle is the oldest evidence of the original arrangement of Glagolitic letters in the writing system.
