Šipun Winery
Šipun Winery is located in the medieval coastal town of Vrbnik on the island of Krk. Half of the vineyard is situated in the valley to the west, while the other half is on the hills, where the island's strong "bura" wind prevents fungi from settling on the grapes.
In the rocky, hilly part of the vineyard, the grapes ripen well, producing fuller wines with higher alcohol content. In the valley, the iron oxide colors the soil, resulting in generally fresher and lighter wines with lower alcohol content and acidity.
The tradition of grape growing in the Dobrinčić family spans several generations. However, commercial wine production, planting, and pruning are more recent developments. The planting is based on white grape varieties typical of the Croatian coastal region, such as Žlahtina, Jarbola, and Belina, as well as red varieties like Sansigot, Kamenina, and Debejan.
The wines produced by the Dobrinčić family are of high quality, and they currently offer five wines. The white wine Žlahtina, red wine Sansigot, and rosé Trojišćina are united under the name Šipun. They also produce the red wine Kapitul and the sparkling wine Maličić.
