Rector’s Palace
This is one of the two palaces that the Frankopan princes, the most powerful noble family, had in the city. According to descriptions in preserved documents, the building once featured five Renaissance windows with blue sills and three doors on its façade. The Prince's Court was in use until 1480, marking the end of Frankopan rule on the island of Krk.
The noble family of the Counts of Krk, medieval rulers of the island, originally came from Vrbnik. In the town, they had their Rector’s Palace, and above the Vrbnik Field stood their fortress, Gradec Castle.
In 1388, they authored the Vrbnik Statute, a collection of regulations written in the Croatian language and in Glagolitic script. For centuries, Vrbnik was considered the most important Glagolitic center on the island.
