Katunar Estate Winery
KATUNAR ESTATE WINERY is a continuation of the family tradition of viticulture and winemaking.
Land registry records, as well as one of the oldest island wine archives, speak of the centuries-old winemaking tradition of the Katunar family, which flourished in the 1990s.
Like the entire wine production of this area until the late 1980s, the Katunar family’s wine production was directed towards the local cooperative winery – as cooperativism was the only possible way of doing business until 1990.
In the 1990s, during the general flourishing of winemaking, Katunar Winery invested in new technologies – combining the island’s traditional viticulture methods with new winemaking practices. They were among the first to introduce controlled cold fermentation, acquired new barrels made of Slavonian oak, and were the only ones in Croatia to master the production of sparkling wines using the Charmat (tank) method.
