Along the Paths of Vrbnik’s Farmers

Description

From the center of Vrbnik, via Grohot Street, we arrive at the crossroads leading to Žanac and Potovošće Bay, where we turn right. Before reaching the Church of St. Nedija (from 1445), we turn left and enter the Vrbnik Field, planted with the renowned Vrbnička žlahtina, covering an area of 100 hectares. We can reach the fresh water spring at Rovoznik via a path through the vineyard or by following the trail along its edge.

To the right, you can visit the chapel of St. Mary Magdalene, where, according to legend, the last Frankopan from the island was married. The left path, passing through Stoza, Matijev’s shepherd’s hut, and Misučajnica (a pond), leads to an area where flocks of sheep graze both summer and winter. In spring and early summer, thousands of clumps of wildflowers bloom here, and the air is filled with the intoxicating scent of freshly blossomed flowers. The entire landscape appears like a vast tapestry covered in blue, purple, and yellow threads.

Stone houses, once used by Vrbnik’s shepherds for day and night shelter, are scattered throughout the area. Today, they are merely a reminder of past times and the hardworking people who lived here. Near the pond at Misučajnica, after about 30 meters on the asphalt, the path turns left towards Branušine. At the end of a long dry stone wall, we turn left for Lug, or we can continue straight towards M. Hlam (446 m). At Čičišće, turning left, we descend again into Vrbnik Field and continue to Vrbnik. If we continue straight, the wide path leads all the way to Tohoraj and descends into the center of Vrbnik.

From the trail, there is an unforgettable view of Vrbnik and the entire Vrbnik Field, as well as the peaks of Velebit, Risnjak, and Učka.
