Additional information

After the start in Vrbnik, the route to the cove of St. Marek takes you along a combination of asphalt and gravel paths right by the coast, with stunning views of picturesque coves and beaches that will provide a refreshing escape on warm summer days. Don’t miss the chance to stop at the only sandy beach on the island and at the nearby peninsula of St. Marek, where the remains of the medieval church of St. Mark can be found. Roman graves, iron weapons, and fired ceramics point to the traces of the Romans, while the depths of the sea hide remnants of a rustic villa.

Next is a more challenging ascent towards Risika. The trail passes through the idyllic valley of the Vretenica stream, crossed by a bridge built during the time of French rule over the island. On a hill not far from the cycling path, hidden from view, lies the 12th-century castle of Gradec, the home of the famous Frankopan princes of Krk. It was once the center of administrative, military, and political power on the island, and today it remains just a ruin that you can visit. You continue towards the hamlets of Garica and Kampelje, where you can always find peace, quiet, and a break from the hustle and bustle of the city amidst the idyllic restored old stone houses. Nearing your destination, the trail offers a panoramic view of the field of golden Vrbnička Žlahtina, designed for trekking cyclists of moderate fitness levels. Leaving the vineyards behind, you return to the much-celebrated Vrbnik. To finish, treat yourself to a glass of premium Vrbnička Žlahtina and savor the gastronomic delights of Vrbnik's restaurants.
