Vrbnik and Its Long Priesthood History

Throughout its history, Vrbnik has produced an astonishing number of priests considering its size. According to some data, from the late 15th century to the present, more than 130 priests have originated from Vrbnik. This includes monks, parish priests, and canons who served not only on the island of Krk but also throughout Croatia and abroad.

In addition to priests, Vrbnik has also produced a significant number of intellectuals, writers, and scholars associated with religious life. The Glagolitic tradition and the ecclesiastical education that young men received, especially in the Middle Ages, have strongly contributed to this number.
