CAMINO KRK ( 6. day), Vrbnik – Baška
The Camino Krk is divided into seven pilgrimage chapters, specifically seven days needed to truly experience the island's historical, cultural, and particularly sacred heritage immersed in impressive natural settings and unique urban environments.
The sixth day of the Camino route connects Vrbnik with Baška on a 23-kilometer stretch. This trail is a true karst beauty, leading through the impressive landscape of a rocky plateau on the southeastern part of the island, adorned with stone plantations and kilometers of dry stone walls.

You start from Vrbnik, passing through Vrbničko polje and the vineyards of Žlahtina. This field is widely known as a place where noble grapevines have been cultivated for over a hundred years. Enjoy the aromas of this indigenous island grape variety, and at the end of each stage, don’t forget to toast with a glass of golden drops. The trail then ascends towards the Moon Plateau, from where you can enjoy views of the Vinodol River and the Velebit massif. The landscape, reminiscent of a rocky desert or the surface of the Moon, justifies the name of this locality. Along the path, you will first pass by the Vele Rike spring, the only permanent watercourse on the island, and then near the nearby climbing areas of Portafortuna and Belove Stene. Not far from the plateau, on the far southeastern side of the island, lies the Kuntrep ornithological reserve, the oldest ornithological reserve in the world, which cares for the griffon vultures. The dry stone walls (gromače) that stretch endlessly and divide the pastoral estates lead to the Moon Path, a trail that connects the plateau with the center of Baška.
After a long stretch of rugged terrain and scattered stones, you arrive at a pine forest where a well-maintained path gently descends to the village. In the shade of the trees and in the company of a few sheep, pause at the viewpoints that offer beautiful views of the Baška Valley. The path passes by the Church of St. John the Baptist, the protector of the parish and the municipality of Baška. It continues downhill towards the village center, which boasts three other significant sacred sites: the parish church of the Holy Trinity, the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, and the chapel of St. Mark, under which lie the remains of a 5th-century early Christian basilica and baptismal font. The penultimate day of your Camino ends at one of the most beautiful island beaches, the symbol of Baška – Vela Plaža.
